Bodrum Town:

Bodrum town is only 25 minutes from the apartment, taxis and a regular shuttle service transports residents to and from Bodrum town centre. Bodrum is the most established and cosmopolitan of all the Turkish resorts. Situated on the south-west coast of Turkey where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. Also known as the "Turkish Riviera" with the spectacular Bodrum castle as it's center piece, it manages to combine the diverse elements of ancient and modern with ease: offering a town centre that has a labyrinth of streets and small alleys with atmospheric bazaars and historical sites alongside a modern marina and harbour with vibrant nightlife, shopping centres, restaurants and trendy beach clubs. A wealth of Mythology and History, spectacular scenery, outlined with sandy beaches and a coastline with many hidden coves and bays.

There are many activities to do, including boat trips, scuba and snorkeling, ancient wreck diving, water-skiing and parasailing. If you enjoy your history, then The Bodrum Underwater Museum of Archaeology in The Bodrum Castle is a must see. See below for more details of what Bodrum has to offer.

Bodrum Castle is one of Bodrum’s most recognizable landmarks. The castle is also one of the world’s finest museums of underwater archeology housed in the superb 15th century castle built by the Knights of St. John of Rhodes. The world’s oldest known shipwreck exhibition is now open. Inside, there are courtyards where you can have tea, or feed the white peacocks, the shady courtyard is littered with antiquities dating back before Christ’s birth. The area known as the northern moat just outside the main gate is used as a huge theater which hosts recording artists from all over the world. Most famous is Bodrum’s annual Jazz Festival. This star attraction rates a ‘must see’ on everyone’s list.

Bodrum Underwater Museum of Archaeology: in The Bodrum Castle of The Knights of St.John is an original, creative and exiting experience. It is a trip into a fascinating past through to life in exhibits that take you back in time into the worlds of ancient mariners who sailed to meet their destiny shipwrecked on Anatolian shores or to the medieval Age of Knights who built this castle from stones that once were part of one of the Seven Wonders of the ancient World: The Mausoleum of Halicarnasus.

Shopping: Shopping through the historical narrow streets of Bodrum between the white walls is a pleasure you must try. The Turkish crafts make it impossible to resist buying something. The most popular objects for the holiday maker are of course carpets; but the varied leather, copper and bronze wares, silver and gold, handicrafts and embroidery, and the famous Turkish meerschaum and onyx are on many peoples' lists. If it is more your style then shopping can also be a luxury in the marina at Milta Karada Marina or the Oasis Centre, spending well earned money on the designer labels in Diesel, Polo, Ralph Lauren and many more well known shops.

Eating & Drinking: Bodrum has a huge range of restaurants and bars for food and drink gathered around the bay on enchanting narrow streets, between them offering traditional Turkish cuisine, European dishes, Italian, Thai, Chinese and Indian meals, as well and fish 'n' chips, steak pie and peas, and the like; there's food and drink to suit everyone's palette, and wallet! The beautiful waterfront area is perfect for an evening stroll and you can find restaurants and cafes here overlooking the Agean sea with magnificent views of the illuminated castle.

Nightlife: Bodrum boasts a night-life to match any other European resort and has more bars and clubs per area than any other place in Turkey. A night out in one of the water front bars, overlooking the awesome spot-lit Bodrum castle and the super yachts is a sight to behold. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There is much more to Bodrum's world at night that can only be seen to be believed. Nightlife is varied and caters for all tastes from the party seekers to those searching for a romantic evening for two. Live music, huge discotechs, local and international DJs, Rock, Hip-hop, Latino, jazz, show dancers are all on offer, complete with fog machines and laser lights. There are also plenty of traditional Turkish bars where they play or sing old classical songs.

At the end of Bodrum's 1 mile long bar street running parallel with the beach is the famous Halikarnas Night Club. Touted as the biggest and best disco in the world. Halikarnas is water front, open-air and sits imposingly above the harbour, making a striking backdrop to the laser show. A massive party every night, it is the biggest club in Bodrum with a capacity of 5,500 people.

Bodrum also boast the only Catamaran night club in the world. A huge Catamaran floating on the Mediterranean sea. It moors up just next to the castle on the harbour front every night, one of the best hot spots of Turkey.

If it's live music you are after, the intimate and bohemian Mavi Bar is recommended. Yettigari and Hadigari are also famously great nights out.

Throughout Bodrum and the neighbouring club hotspot, Gumbet, there are hundreds of bars and clubs to suit all. Anything goes, all night long.

Diving: The Bodrum sea bed is scattered with ancient wrecks and relics which makes it a fantastic place to dive. You can scuba and snorkel or dive wrecks, reefs, walls, drop-offs, caverns and tunnels. Octopus, stingrays, groupers, barracuda, morays, sea bream, nudibranchs, seahorses and sponges are common and there is also a chance to see dolphins and turtles. The diving season runs from April to November at most centers

Boat Trips: Bodrum is an ideal starting point for exploring the Aegean coast. There are many organised excursions, very reasonable prices, most including food. Most boats from Bodrum harbor sail either towards the Bay of Gokova or in the opposite direction along the Bodrum coastline passing the small bays as they go. At Black Island ( Karaada ) you can experience hot springs gushing out of a cave and orange mud to rub onto the skin. A trip is to the Aquarium just accessible by boats, which are several small bays faced by a sheltering island which has created an area of such crystal clear waters with visible depths of 20 meters and natural beauty. There are also day trips to the Greek islands of Kos (only 1 hour away) and Kalymnos. You can also go to Marmaris and Rhodes.

History: Bodrum is an ancient town and has a wealth of history to explore. As well as the castle, other sites include: The Mausoleum, Myndus gate and The Amphi-theatre.
